How Do You Get Computer Viruses?

By: Kay Norman

he worst nightmare of every single computer user out there is to wake up in the morning and find out that your computer has been attacked by viruses. What’s worse is that you don’t know how it made its way in to your computer and you are not sure about how it can be removed. A majority of people these days have a complete understanding of what viruses are and how harmful they can be, however, they are not really sure about how these tend to spread. The fact is that there are multitudes of ways for viruses to spread. Some of the most frequent ways for this to happen are:

Attachments Received via Email

One of the most common ways for people to be attacked by viruses is via email attachments. The best way to save yourself from this happening, make sure that you never open an attachment that you cannot identify. Many computer users these days never open an attachment. However, you do not need to take such drastic steps and just use a bit of common sense while going through your emails.

Websites

The most depressing thing to know these days is that your computer can easily get infected by virus or spyware by merely visiting a website. A majority of gambling and adult websites are not the least bit trustworthy and are going to make attempts to access your computer as soon as you visit them. They usually install adware on to your computer, which causes multitudes of pop ups to appear on your screen every now and then. To avoid such a situation, you need to adjust your antivirus settings and firewall to make sure that no outside connections can access your computer and install unwanted programs on to it.

Phishing Schemes

In order to keep your computer and your personal information safe online, it is necessary to learn how computer viruses spread. Phishing schemes are going to take your personal information and leave you having to deal with a computer that is filled with viruses. Phishing schemes start when you receive an email from a website that claims to be your credit card company or bank. As soon as you click the link given in the email and log in, your personal details are given away. These websites also tend to automatically install adware, spyware and viruses on your computer.

Infected Software

There are multitudes of websites out there that offer free programs and games these days. However, these websites often purposely infect their freeware with trojans so that your computer gets infected (without you even knowing it) each time that you download a piece of software. For this reason, you must never download software from unreliable sources.

Fake Antivirus Programs

Multitudes of antivirus software are available on the internet these days that can be downloaded for free. The worst part is that a majority of these software do exactly the opposite of what they should be doing. Instead of saving you from viruses, trojans etc, they will infect your computer and make things a whole lot worse.

How to Get Rid of Any Computer Virus

By: Mindy Claribel

It’s always easier to stop computer malware or viruses from infecting the computer than it is to get rid of them, but at times, it does not make any difference how wary you are, you still become a victim. Just before you carry your PC in for service, try these easy actions to get rid of the virus from your PC:

Close all operating programs, open records, and open up windows. If the virus stops you from performing this, you can still do the following step, but do try force stopping if you can't stop a program easily.

If you’re suspicious that you are infected by a virus, start the anti-virus operating system that you have and do a scan of your complete system. Run the anti-virus device control software so that it should control and isolate any virus it acquires. If you don't have anti-virus device control software in your PC, open up a web browser and either obtain a demo version or run an online version from an anti-virus device control software source's site.

If you have antivirus software and you still need to get rid of a virus, ensure which your antivirus software is properly updated. If your antivirus software is not keeping up to date online, but you still have the good net connection, go to your vendor’s website, download the most current update (a lot antivirus software manufacturers offer you one online), and set up update manually using the directions given to you by the antivirus company.

So, each time there is a slightest doubt of a probable virus attack, there are some fast actions to check your suspicions!

• Quit working. Save the necessary documents and close up all the windows.
• Don't start off deleting records hysterically that will result to worst. Stay peaceful and consider a back up.
• Run the anti - virus operating system immediately. In case it asks for any updates, replace the device control software and run it.
• If difficulties continue there is a chance that the computer is under a virus/spyware attack.

A computer virus is a program that enters a computer minus the awareness of the user. Some of these are capable to spread to various computers. Computer worms can cause your computer to reduce speed. Most of these are additionally capable to corrupt information stored inside your PC. Computer worms may be acquired once you obtain contaminated files from the Web or access malicious sites. Know how to avoid a virus in your own computer.

There are so many viruses out there, so I know it can be hard to pinpoint on which one is going to work, while which one isn’t going to work. What you’re going to want to do is the next time you find a problem is to simply search online. You’re going to find that if you search a specific problem, you should be able to find an answer that is going to work the best for you.

Computer and Internet Privacy Basics

by: Anna Sonen

The Computer Privacy protection is a very serious issue to be ignored these days."Everything you do online and offline is monitored by someone.", say many people out there and they are right not because of their paranoia but because the Private Information is too valued for its owner. But is it possible to protect our Computer Privacy without plugging the cable?

See how somebody could steal your Private Information. Reveal what is the difference between Computer Privacy and Internet Privacy. Read how to generate Secure Passwords that hackers can not break.

1. What is Computer Privacy?

This is the power to control what computer information you reveal about yourself and to control who can access this personal information.

2. What is Internet Privacy?

It is a part of the computer privacy. It is the power to control what information you reveal about yourself in Internet, the power to control which web sites, remote scripts and web applications can access this personal information, and the power to know if these web sites, scripts, and web applications are enough trustworthy.

3. What is Private Information?

No doubt, your computer keeps tons of information about:

* all web sites you have visited

* all documents, folders, pictures, videos, files you have opened and created

* all e-mail, forum names and passwords you have

* all bank and credit card information you have saved

* all Skype-to-Skype calls and ICQ chats you have made

* all technology, writing or art you have invented

* your online shopping activities: when you visit the online store order page of some web site

* your shared photos, videos, age data, hobbies, preferences, even thoughts with everyone out there

* generally all your computer habits and things-to-do

All computer and web data you consider to private is your private information.

4. How to Generate Secure Passwords that Hackers can not break?

We use passwords every day to access our computer accounts, e-mail accounts, bank accounts, Facebook and Twitter accounts and hundreds of other services. There is great temptation to use one password for all accounts and to make it short and easy to remember. However, this has devastating effect on our security and privacy. If you think that you have nothing to hide, think again.

In most cases the passwords are hacked to use your computer as spam bot, to steal your money and private information, to infect your computer with computer viruses and spyware and so on.

Learn to avoid the following weak and easy to crack passwords:

* Generic passwords and default passwords. Examples: admin, administrator, user, guest, pass, password, iloveyou, 2010, etc. These are the first passwords that are tried by the password cracking software.

* Meaningful words or names. Examples: sandbox, NY, lion, john, mary, USA, love, myspouse, dragon, etc. Easily cracked by the dictionary-assisted cracking tools.

* Words or names with added numbers. Examples: john123, pass123, 123456, number1, abc123, 654321, etc. Easily cracked by the automated cracking tools.

* Personal names, birthdates or similar information. These are used a lot as passwords and are very easily cracked. For example, if the password is a birthday, there are only hundreds or few thousands (if the year is included) possible combinations, which is very weak for a password.

Learn to generate strong random passwords through these rules:

* Choosing "randomly" letters and numbers. It appears random but only at first sight. Numerous research studies have proven that humans are not very good at random picks - they always try to spread the things too evenly, which is not random behavior.

* "Random" typing on the keyboard with closed eyes. This is slightly better than random choosing but still nowhere random enough.

* Online random password generators. Much better than the previous two alternatives but have 2 major drawbacks. The first is the possibility that the generated password may be saved on the website with malicious purposes or someone may eavesdrop on your connection and intercept the generated passwords. The second major problem is the quality of the random number generators, which very often is not up to the task. Many of them are naively implemented and provide a lot fewer combinations than theoretically possible (no more that tens or hundreds of millions, which is not strong password by any means - see the table in the previous chapter).

* Specialized random password generator programs. The best option as long as they are implemented properly and come from trusted source.

Trojan Virus attacks: An analysis

by: Herry willson

What is a Trojan virus?

A virus that looks like a harmless and useful program but actually contains a code that can destroy data or install adware or spyware on your computer. Trojan viruses can be embedded in email attachments, programs that have been downloaded, or even through operating system vulnerabilities on your computer.

A recent tactic that hackers are using is to put the virus in pictures. Never download anything you do not recognize. Unlike the regular computer viruses Trojans do not replicate.

What does a Trojan virus do to your computer?

Trojan viruses can do much damage to your computer or worse, hackers can read the files and personal information from your computer and steal your identity. They can also add unwanted spyware and ad ware, deliver unsolicited pop-ups and advertising, all without your consent.

So how can get rid of them?

Most if not all antivirus programs will detect and remove Trojans, viruses and other unwanted programs from your computer automatically. For e-mail attachments, you may have to scan them individually. There are programs you can download that will do it automatically. There is plenty of anti-virus software free and paid out there that can look at. Payment programs usually have more features that can be used as a registry cleaner.

Whatever your choice may be, make sure you have installed the latest version, periodically perform system analysis, and updated with the latest version to keep your computer protected.

One of the most evil and insidious things ever invented was the Trojan virus. What person with dementia thought of this is beyond comprehension. Trojan virus infiltrates your entire computer system and affects its ability to quickly browse the Internet and in the worst cases can cause the entire system to crash, permanently delete data stored on your hard drive.

There are some steps you can take to the removal of Trojan viruses, to save all your data and installed software. If you take your computer to a repair shop or the Geek Squad you want to delete the entire hard drive after saving valuable documents. After going to reinstall the operating system software and make your computer virus free.

The problem with this method is that it is expensive, time consuming, and you can never recover the installed applications. Unless you have the original application software installation discs and registration number to go with it, you have to buy new programs. That can reach hundreds and even thousands of dollars if you have a lot of expensive programs installed as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, ProSeries, and many others.

You can also simply download a virus cleaner and run it. That will solve more problems and run the Trojan virus removal desired. If your computer crashes or can not connect to the Internet, which happens a lot with Trojan virus infections.

Use an Online Data Backup Service. Or Prepare to Lose Everything!

By: Trevor Johnson

Unless you're living in a secure bunker deep below the ground (and probably even if you are) then you really should be using an online data backup service. They're cheap and provide the peace of mind that you can't get otherwise. Here are 7 reasons why you should use an online data backup service to protect your precious photos and files.

Water damage

Not just the catastrophic damage caused by big events like a tsunami. Water pipes can and do burst, often without the provocation of frost. When this happens, the water can get everywhere and since computers are electronic they're especially vulnerable. You may be able to get your data back after your house is flooded but it's by no means a given.

Electrical damage

Electrical companies experience power outs and power surges from time to time. Whilst a surge protector socket will probably give your computer equipment some protection, the only real guarantee is the money the socket company promise to pay if their protection kit fails. Which is a small consolation for any missing photos unless you're a time traveller.

Fire damage

Whether it's a fire that's got out of hand in a local forest or in the next door building or something that's started in your own property, fire wreaks havoc with computer data. The high temperatures don't mix well with fragile devices like hard drives and even if your drive survives, there's no guarantee that a data recovery company will be able to work its magic on it.

Theft

Burglars don't care about your personal or business files. They'll just take the computer and anything else vaguely valiuable that they can lay their hands on. Anything of value will get sold. Anything that they can't get money for will end up in the trash. Either way your data and photos are no longer in your possession.

Hard disk failure

Despite the astronomical length of time between faults quoted on the packaging and in the adverts, individual hard drives haven't always been told that they're supposed to last near enough forever. Instead, they can refuse to work. It's expensive to get the real life equivalent of Abby Sciuto to trawl through the wreckage of your hard drive. And in the real world the success rate is a lot lower than it is in fiction.

Computer failure

The software that runs your computer isn't infallible either. Windows is a lot more reliable than it was in the early days but when it messes up it does so more spectacularly. It's at that stage that you realize the few cents and time saved when you didn't make a backup disk at the time you bought your PC was a big mistake. I know, you were going to get round to it, but the fact is that you haven't and you've got the choice of paying a local specialist or writing off everything that was on the PC. Always assuming it wasn't a BIOS failure that killed your computer big time.

Viruses and malware

Not every anti virus program spots every malicious piece of software that your computer encounters. And you ay not know a file has been infected - or even just corrupted - until it's too late.

Using an online data backup service gets around all these problems and means you can relax, safe in the knowledge that your precious computer data is backed up well away from your home or office.

Keylogger Scanner Review

by: Donald Chambers

Nowadays it is very important for both home and business computer users to understand how to protect their computer from viruses, and from spyware and malware infections. Users also need to understand how to protect personal information, such as user names and passwords for online banking services, from fraudulent attack such as e-mail "phishing". Review the security information provided by your online banking provider, and ensure that all machines are protected by regularly updated antivirus and anti-spyware programs.

http://www.review-best.com/spyware-removal-software-download.htm

Keylogging is one technique used to steal personal information, such as IDs and passwords for online banking services, and a keylogger scanner should be included with any good anti-spyware software. I will also be introducing a high quality virus, adware and spyware software that speed up my PC significantly.

Nowadays it is very important that all PC users, whether they use their computer at home or work, understand how they should protect their computer from infection by viruses, spyware, and malware.

In former times, viruses seem to have mainly existed so that they could give their authors some kind of perverse thrill, but an increasing number of virus and malware programs are now controlled and created by criminal organizations. The criminals can control large bot-nets (networks of infected computers), which they sometimes use for sending out massive quantities of spam e-mail.

Other criminal attacks can use infection by spyware to let the criminals steal the computer owner's identity, and their financial information. Programs like keyloggers are able to detect when the computers owner is entering username, password into an online bank website.

The stolen username, password can then be used for fraudulent activities. People who use online banking need to be aware of how these frauds can take place. Always review the security advice page on your online banking provider's website.

"Phishing" attacks are very common. A person may receive a telephone call or an e-mail, saying that their bank needs to confirm account details. Never respond to a telephone call or e-mail of this type. Criminals send out millions of e-mails like this every week, and those who respond will soon find that they have been defrauded of the contents of their online bank account.

Always ensure that all the machines in your home or business are protected by anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. Ensure that these programs run regularly, and download the updates from the program vendor which allow them to detect new attacks. Keylogging programs are used to steal personal information, and a keylogger scanner will be included with any good anti-spyware package. I am glad that all the spyware, adware and Trojan viruses on my computer are all gone now all thanks high quality software which I downloaded.

Keylogger Scanner to Remove Keyloggers

by: Donald Chambers

Nowadays both business and home computer users need to be aware of how to protect themselves from attack by computer viruses, spyware, malware, and fraudulent attempts to steal personal identity and financial data. Computers should always have up-to-date antivirus and other security programs installed, and all users should be familiar with those steps which are needed to protect personal identity when using the Internet.

http://www.review-best.com/spyware-removal-software-download.htm

Keyloggers are a particular type of spyware, which usually will attempt to steal a person's user ID and password, when they log on to a particular website. Any good anti-malware or anti-spyware software should include a keylogger scanner, which would detect the presence of that program and remove it. I will also be introducing a high quality virus, adware and spyware software that speed up my PC significantly.

Those who use personal computers, whether at home or work, should understand the need to protect their computer from attack by computer viruses, spyware and malware. These programs can cause a lot of damage and inconvenience.

The authors of the very first computer viruses seemed to have been mainly interested in showing how clever they were, but modern virus and spyware infections are often designed and distributed for criminal purposes. Criminal gangs often use these infections to gain control of very large networks (millions of home computers in some cases), which they use for various illegal purposes. Often the networks are hired out to those who wish to distribute large quantities of e-mail spam.

Criminals also use virus, spyware and malware infections to attempt to steal people's personal identity, and therefore to gain access to their bank accounts. Keyloggers are often an element in these infections: they detect the user's ID and password when they are connecting to their online bank.

The user's ID and password can then be used fraudulently to steal money from the bank account. Users of online banks should be cautious about frauds of this type. Always follow the security advice provided on the security page of your online bank's website.

The so-called "phishing" attack occurs when fraudsters use e-mail or telephone calls to impersonate bank staff, and to trick customers into revealing their account details and password.

The best protection requires computers to have up-to-date antivirus and other security programs (anti-spyware, anti-malware) installed. These should also be configured to run regularly, preferably once per day. Keyloggers attempt to steal IDs and passwords when users are connecting to online services. The ability to detect and remove these scanners should be included in any good anti-spyware system. I am glad that all the spyware, adware and Trojan viruses on my computer are all gone now all thanks high quality software which I downloaded.

Windows security center Virus - how to fix your PC and secure it

by: Chuck james

The windows security center virus is what many individuals are calling a "rogue PC security application" which has been produced by hackers to attempt and steal your personal details & steal your money. Although this program may look legitimate, the fact is that it's nothing more than a thinly-disguised scam, and should be removed from your computer as quickly and effectively as possible.

This is a virus and likely infected your computer from the likes of a Trojan Horse infection, fake email attachment or malicious download on the Internet. You can normally tell pretty easily if you have the virus on your PC, as it will display a branded application that will attempt to show you a series of fake virus results in order to scare you into buying the useless upgrade to the software and you need to remove the windows security center virus.

This malware looks like the real windows securiy center, except it contains spelling mistakes on the warning screen.

If you have this infection, you need to get rid of it as best you can. The problem many individuals have is that they attempt and remove it from their computer by either using an antivirus program or some other form of manual method, and they soon discover that it will come back as soon as they restart. The fact is that removing this infection is a little bit more involved than what many individuals first think. Most individuals think that you could delete the files that make the fake application run, and that will stop it from working again. Although this may stop the fake application, the fact is that in the "background', there are 100's of other parts of the virus which will remain and cause even more damage to your PC.

Removing the windows security center virus all boils down to getting rid of all elements of this virus, and that can be done by using what's known as a "malware removal" program. Malware removal tools are produced to scan through your system and get rid of all the corrupt, damaged and infected files that Security Center placed onto your system.

By using a system scanner you'll be able to quickly get rid of all the parts of this infection. We've found this program works best to remove this virus. After that, you should then let the program scan your computer and remove the windows Security Center virus, which will leave your PC running as smoothly and effectively as possible again.

To use this software you need to start your computer in safe mode.

#1 Press the F8 key when windows starts and then select safe mode with networking from the menu.

#2 Go to internet explorer--> tools----> internet options-----> Lan settings then untick the box that says use a proxy server.

#3 Once you have done this you can use your broswer. Unticking this box will stop the malware hijacking your broswer in safe mode. Open your browser and download a system scanner and perofrm a fill system and registry scan.

#4 Once you have done this your computer will be rid of the http://www.thecomputerregistrycleaner.com/ fast

Secure Mail: Gateways for email protection

by: Herry Willson

Hardware solutions to protect corporate email are now a fully mature segment with increasingly similar products as their standard functions of anti-spam and antivirus is concerned. However, these gateways still show many differences that will need to know and evaluate to find the best option in each case.

Gateways security email security down at the end of the corporate network and act as the first barrier between the Internet and messaging system of the company. Although there is considerable variation in their characteristics and architectures, most of these devices are installed in front of the Internet to receive messages directly from the outside world.

As a first step, in general, filter incoming mail by the criteria of reputation and, if the messages get through this control, scan for viruses and spam, then apply additional controls and filters, once clean, the mail is passed corporate email system. These same gateways can also be used for outgoing messages, controls applied in this case slightly different, usually, filtering, archiving and antivirus.

In its current state, messaging security gateways are an updated and refined version of traditional e-mail gateways that are deployed in networks to make Internet messaging formats (SMTP and MIME) formats and proprietary addressing schemes (such as MS Mail, cc: Mail or GroupWise).

This new batch of gateways, arising out of the need for functionality anti-spam/antivirus in the network edge, has lost some of the features and characteristics of their older brothers, but, instead, take the form of appliances, which provide a much improved performance by focusing on only a few specific functions.

Although it is possible to scan for viruses and spam at any point in the flow of messages, for example, on the same servers, security gateways are more effective messaging. By separating and filtering spam and virus localization of the basic function of the mail servers, you will get better performance levels, also allowing worry of problems related to interoperability and software integration.

Moreover, the nature of appliance most gateways for easy upgrade or replacement by larger models without impacting production message flows.

However, although the gateways are quite independent of the central mail systems, always require some degree of integration to improve your trading. For example, the device must be linked to corporate directory via LDAP, usually, "to recognize incoming mail, refusing to know which messages and route mail within the corporate network (especially if there are several internal email systems).

Some manufacturers in this segment (Symantec among them) are experimenting with the division of the gateway into two parts: a piece designed specifically for the control and reputation-mail filtering and a second dedicated to addressing the functions of filtering, archiving and scanning.

The idea is that by implementing these two functions separately, achieving higher scalability when dealing large volumes of messages (one million emails to the time it was the starting point).

Although anti-spam and antivirus scanning are the most common benefits of all manufacturers gateways also offer a wide variety of other messaging features. Content filtering, searching phrases or specific words, is a common feature, as is the message file (the ability to copy the incoming or outgoing messages on a dedicated server).

Also as part of the anti-spam functionality, some devices incorporate their own servers for viruses or spam quarantine. They also appear frequently encryption services, from transport-based encryption (TLS encryption as a reinforcement of certain business associates) to the application layer (such as signing and encrypting messages so that only the designated user can read). There are even manufacturers to differentiate in a market increasingly "commoditized", extending its benefits to instant messaging (IM).

How to Protect Data With IT Security

By: Simona Rusnakova

In the digital age, information is everything. The scope of any business is not limited and has increased tremendously. The global interaction and scope of any business or company has led to an enormous increase in data.

All business transactions are now conducted through the internet. This means that all transfer of information will take place with the web. While the time involved had been drastically reduced, there are many other critical threats which have come to the fore front.

Corporations are facing data leakage as vital data remain unprotected in their systems. The loss of this data can lead to severe implications in the field of business where a simple leak may prove very expensive. Apart from this, authentic and efficient corporate governance requires that all aspects of the company’s working are in compliance with the rules and regulations. In a workplace, the presence and distribution of an inappropriate image can have several highly undesirable consequences.

The Immediate Need of Porn Detection and Network Protection

The presence of any disturbing or inappropriate image is not just a nuisance. There is much more at stake. The presence as well as the distribution of such images can lead to serious implications for the organization. Loss of corporate goodwill and reputation, violation of corporate policies and criminal or civil suits are all possible. This leads to the need of porn detection. There are many service providers which provide computer tools to enable you to detect porn. These tools act as auditors of images. They scan the systems for any inappropriate image presence. If such an image is detected, the same will be made shown in a gallery. Similar tools for network protection are also available.

Email Employee Monitoring is Crucial

The system tools which are now available provide helpful service in detecting and managing image appropriateness. In a company, monitoring employee email is very necessary. The IT security tools scan all incoming or outgoing emails within the organization network as well as the internet emails to see if they have any inappropriate images. If one is detected, the administrator will be sent a report. This makes employee email monitoring extremely simple.

Constant Email Monitoring to Detect Porn

These tools are helpful in the process of email monitoring of the employees. This ensures that no inappropriate image is present on any system of the organization. These tools and services have the ability to detect porn and destroy such files and images.

You Need to Protect Data Now

The data of any corporation or department is crucial to the company and its working. With the assistance of these tools network protection is now possible. In order to be able to protect data all that is required is that the requisite guidelines be made known. To protect network information, these tools are able to investigate into inappropriate usage of its IT resources. Leakage of data is prevented and the integrity of the corporation is ensured.

The management of security risks and ensuring image appropriateness has a twofold advantage. It makes sure that there is no loss of organizational reputation while all company policies are complied with.

The Risk of Not Using Network Support

By: Derek Rogers

Ever since the introduction of e-commerce, business has changed dramatically. Existing businesses were able to communicate and trade instantly right throughout the world, and of course it allowed the blue collar workers who were previously stuck in their manual labour jobs to suddenly start working at home and do as they pleased. Things have definitely changed, and in the corporate work place, even more so.

In any given work place these days you will find that there are a few common things aside from desks and chairs. There is an intricate network, routers, hubs, and of course computers. There was a time when a business could do without these things, especially at the beginning of the computer age, but now things have changed rather drastically. A business simply cannot operate without a network, and with that in mind, it will of course need network support.

Network support can be obtained in many different ways. For one thing you could hire someone to help take care of the network. Even if you are well versed in computer networking, you probably should not be the one to take care of it. Business networks can be highly complex and if you spend all of your time working on that, then you will not be able to take care of the finer points of your business, most notably improving your bottom line and increasing profits.

You could of course just leave the network alone and pray it works, but even in a UNIX network, there is almost certainly going to be some form of issue or gremlin at some point down the line. Is this really something that you want to leave to chance? Most likely you won't, so you need to search for help. Help comes in the form of network support, and this is a service that is offered by many different companies.

A quick internet search will without a doubt pull up several dozen possibilities and you need to look through each and every one of them. See what types of features and services they offer, then narrow it down to the ones you like the most. Once you have done this, then it is time to interview them. Talk to them, find out who they are, and most importantly find out what they are capable of.

Once again you could try doing this yourself, but if you aren't an expert or simply don't have time, then you could find your entire network falling apart around you, which shouldn't be your goal in any case. When your network fails, your business is going to lose money, and depending on how long your network is down, you could find yourself going out of business. These are the risks you take when you fail to find professional network support, and that being the case it's just not something that you want to risk. So start searching for the right network support team to hire and keep your network running 100% of the time. Your business needs it, and so do you.

Antivirus, Firewall Software – New Ways to Purchase Anti Virus.

By: Andrew McG

Antivirus, firewall software – new ways to purchase anti virus.

Antivirus software has become a necessity for windows based operating system users. Due to the way windows is built and how it works makes it easy to write malicious software which gets into your personal computer without you knowing about it.

There are quite a few varieties of viruses, some make a backdoor channel into your computer and use its resources (Trojans), some only collect information about you (spyware), and some make certain advertisements popup onto your screen now and then (adware).

In order to keep your private information safe, you need a reliable, proven and effective antivirus program. Antivirus and firewall are a bit similar in purpose. A firewall is a specific program which only monitors the incoming traffic onto your computer and filters malicious data which could potentially harm your computer and yourself.

Most of the antivirus software available in the market today comes with a firewall of its own. It is automatically installed on your computer when you install the antivirus itself. Some of the corporate grade, or high end antivirus software does not come with a firewall in the default package, rather you either have to purchase the firewall separately or purchase a complete antivirus suite. Such suites can cost you as much as up to 40 to 60 USD (25 33 pounds).

While deciding about buying an antivirus you have to take a few factors in consideration. First and foremost, you don’t need to just go and buy the best looking software because some of the biggest names in the industry have been overshadowed by formerly less known vendors. Why? Due to the lack of support from the old and established antivirus companies and their failure to keep the users updated about upcoming threats.

Moreover, these companies usually charge you quite a bit of sum and you don’t need to spend your money on something which is all names and no real output. You also need to watch out for the opposite type of vendors, these vendors do not have any real piece of software to offer you, rather ironically the adware kind of viruses actually make you buy useless software and substandard antivirus and firewalls are also a part of this malicious software program.

You need to buy an antivirus or a firewall from a vendor who has recently gained ground in the industry; this can be a new company which has been making antivirus and firewalls for no more than three years.

Some people have even suggested that viruses we created only to give the antivirus companies a boost and are being created for the same purpose to date. It is logical not to rule out this idea because it has been the practice of the corporate world as long as humanity remembers to create a void for a product, prepare it before hand and release it at the very sweet moment. In short that is how marketing works.

Remember, you have to take the right decision and strike a balance between names a performance.

A Quick Guide on it Security

By: Lorabella

We have all used the excuse of a PC crash and virus attack, perhaps even more than its fair share to avoid working, giving in projects on time and missing deadlines. Many a times it is really just an excuse, but for many, it has posed actual problems causing loss of important and often irreplaceable data. How many times have you wanted to kick yourself for not bothering to get a good anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall because thanks to it you ended up re-doing presentations. And doesn’t the loss of all your favourite videos, the pictures of your last holiday, and your best songs stored on your PC, make you wish that you had been more careful, and at least made back-ups? And if all this sounds familiar to you, and brings back unpleasant memories of computer crashes or irritating pop-ups or worse, your email and Facebook accounts being hacked, then it is time to sit up and pay attention.

The world of IT security has many dedicated professionals who work on developing new and safer anti-virus, anti-spyware, pop-up blockers and other software to protect your PC from hacking, virus attacks and in the worst case scenario - crashes. The importance of IT security has been acknowledged by one and all today. If you believe that only government or top-secret websites, or those who use net-banking and online purchase facilities need good IT security software, then it is time for a reality check. Don’t we all get spam mail all the time, and often, even if advertently end up clicking on some random link, or visiting potentially damaging sites and put our PCs to risk? It is not only people who give out personal information like credit card numbers, or bank account numbers online who need IT security, but anybody and everybody who has access to a PC with Internet. Spyware, malware and viruses are all risks that plague every PC, and often without even us knowing about them.

Many of us avoid buying original and authentic anti-virus and spyware programs, and try and make do with the free, easy to download versions online. However, what we forget is that these are generally trial versions that offer to scan your PC and alert you about potential threats but do not in any way get rid of them. Though buying an anti-virus CD will make you shell out a few bucks, but it is definitely worth the effort. The surety that you will not face computer crashes that are almost a matter of life and death for many, and have your personal emails hacked is worth each and every penny. With so many anti-virus and anti-spywares available today, there is really no excuse if you still end up having IT security issues.

Investing in a good and safe anti-virus would be the first step if you want to make your PC safe and secure against potential IT security issues. Anti-Spyware and malware lodge themselves in your PC and monitor your online activities and give away important personal information to hackers. In fact, not bothering about IT security is tantamount to throwing the field open for hackers to hack your emails and accounts. Pop-ups, are again something we all agree are irritating beyond a shred of doubt, but more than just that they are links to potentially damaging sites and spyware and an open invitation to security problems. A good pop-up blocker, available online (most of them are free of cost) would also be a wise decision.

The world of IT security offers solutions to all your PC safety and security problems, and to think that you could be least bothered by it is the worst thing you could do to your PC and your online activities.

Teenagers and young adults who’re in their high schools or colleges at this time can hardly imagine living without social media sites such as My Space and face Book or their cellular phones. They have grown and prospered with it.

Internet privacy and security are of great concern and hot topics for discussion in business, personal and public policy forums. However, there doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion or concern expressed with specific regards to teenagers and young adults.

Similarly, the risks of insidious crime of identity theft is rarely addressed with young adults in mind. It is frequently but falsely assumed that folks who steal private and personal identity information are only interested in credit card numbers or bank account numbers for stealing money. This thinking ignores that identity of young adults will be of even greater value to those thieves. It needs to be noted though, that in additional to more talked about financial identity theft, medical, driver's license and personal charecter identity theft is much more insidious and damaging. It si very possible and has happened many a times you could be arrested for crimes you never comitted only because the real criminal used your social security number or your stolen or even a fake driver's licecnse.

Credit card issuers are prone to aggressively push credit cards and debit cards to teenagers and young adults. some times even before they turned eighteen and crooks start working on stealing these numbers almosyt immediately. Actually, using social security number of minors is safer for the thieves because they're not monitored and would not know until much later in their lives. Best Spyware Blocking Software Online

By: Mike Rothwell

The major threats to your computers security include viruses, adware and spyware. These are scripts or programs written to infect your computer and they often spread from one computer to another.

Spyware is designed to covertly infect a computer for the purpose of "spying" or obtaining personal information from that computer or from other computers on the same network. When used effectively the computer user is unaware of the spyware's presence. The user continues to use the computer in a normal matter as the software collects information and sends it to the party, generally known as hackers, who are spreading the spyware. In some cases, the spyware may send the collected information to some other third party. Spyware blockers are software programs designed to protect your computer from spyware.

Anti Spyware software usually detect spyware before it reaches a user's computer. Generally they will detect websites that are known to infect computers with malicious software. The spyware blocker software regularly updates itself from the software provider's website so that it is familiar with the latest types of malware threats.

If your anti spyware software detects a threatening program trying to install itself on the protected computer, it directly blocks the installation. If spyware is already installed on the protected computer, the spyware blocker will remove or quarantine the malicious software.

Because hackers are continuously creating new spyware threats designed to beat the latest blocking software, there is a constant need to keep protection software updated. Companies that provide spyware blockers constantly monitor internet traffic in search of new threats. When a new spyware program is detected, the spyware blocker developer team must quickly assess the threat and develop a protective solution. This solution is then placed on the provider's website for downloading during automatic updates by the spyware blockers installed on remote computers.

In order to keep your personal computer safe at all times, spyware blockers usually provide realtime protection against threats on your network. Spyware is different than viruses or worms in that the software is usually not spread from one computer to another. Instead the users are generally tricked into installing programs that they think are harmless, or that are deceptively bundled with other reliable software. Some spyware software will use phishing techniques pretending to be another well-known program, or at times they will even take on the guise of free security systems.

One common trick used by spyware designers is to create a program that pretends to check your computer for updates, speed, security, or some other problem, and then asks you to download free software to fix that problem. The spyware may even claim to have detected other spyware programs on your computer, after which it requests that you download a security solution that is in reality a spyware program.

Because of the constant presence of threats, and the great difficulty of the average user in detecting all these threats, real time protection is necessary to make sure none of your personal information, or other confidential information, is compromised. With real time spyware blockers, your computer is constantly monitored for possible threats. If you attempt to download malware, for example, the real time monitor will instantly act to block the installation and warn you by identifying the malicious program.

Malware Blocking and Removal Software

By: Mike Rothwell

Spyware is malicious software that is installed on a computer without the users even knowing about it. These programs are designed to spy on the computer's activity. The presence of these programs is usually hidden from the users, and they save all of the information that the computer processes so a third party can review the data at a later time. Although some businesses employers and schools use these spyware programs to monitor their users, the majority of spyware programs secretly work their way into the computers' memory banks through unscrupulous ways, such as viruses and hacked programs disguised as videos or games. Spyware is 99% of the time produced for malicious prepossess, and it can cause the computer to randomly stop responding and run much slower than normal. Sometimes spyware programs even changes the computer's default settings and causes the appearance of unwanted pop-up windows.

Because more people now spend a lot more time online, Spyware has become a major head ache with, and many software designers have designed spyware-blocking software to fight back against these unscrupulous programs. Spyware blocking software works by deleting the spyware and preventing it from collecting the information it seeks. People wonder how to know if a computer is infected with spyware. Usually, the only fool proof way to know if a system has been exposed to spyware is to run spyware blockers that scan the operating system for these parasitical spyware programs.

Spyware blockers have become a small industry of software development in response to the emergence of spyware. Because most users leave their computers connected to the internet at all hours, spyware has become quite prevalent on today's computers, and it sneaks its way onto computers through online downloads and shady websites that offer free programs to the computer then it enters the site. The only way to prevent these horrible programs from entering the system is to run spyware blocking software on all computers that access the internet. Running these spyware blocking programs has become the industry's standard security practice for protecting computers, especially those running Microsoft Windows.

The problem has actually become so serious that the race to design the newest spyware and anti-spyware has become sort of a war. Because there are so many new anti-spyware programs, hackers and under-ground software designers are constantly trying to design a new, undiscovered spyware that will slip through the anti-spyware detection. Because the online "landscape" is constantly evolving, new spyware programs, which are essentially unwanted viruses, continue to pop up on computers across the world. The anti-spyware industry routinely seeks out the newest spyware programs and then designs programs that recognize and block the new spyware. The best way to ensure that a computer is protected is to install regular updates from anti-spyware manufacturers to keep the system protected from the latest online threats. Many of these spyware programs do more than just monitor activity, they compile loads of personal information and surfing habits which are illegally used to steal identities.

Many of the newest antispyware programs have evolved into real-time protection programs that constantly monitor your computer against any new threats from programs that do not have the authority to be in your system. These real-time protection programs keep your computer safe by actively preventing any unwanted programs from being installed on your computer, and they continuously monitor the computer's system to make sure no new threats have arrived.

Keep Your PC Safe - Internet Security for the Home User

By: Alison Brundle

As the number of cable modems and Wi-Fi networks increases, Internet security is becoming more of an issue. You may think that your Internet connection is safe from unwelcome and unwanted intrusion by hackers, but there are some things you can do to improve your security levels to stop hackers gaining access to your personal details, bank account numbers and passwords.

The reason that Internet security is becoming more of an issue now is that people are spending longer connected to the Internet. And unless that pathway is protected by high level security, the hackers will have more opportunities to find a way in. Hijacked machines (often known as zombies and forming part of botnets) are valuable to fraudsters and spammers. The trick is to beat the hackers at their own game.

There are three aspects of home Internet protection, sometimes referred to as the 'holy trinity'.

Personal firewall/intrusion detection

These are the firewalls that often come with your operating system. In older operating systems such as Windows 95 and 98, these systems have virtually no inbuilt security. Because these systems have now been superseded by more up to date software, it is advisable that if you are still operating Win95 or 98 to upgrade to a system that is supported by a Microsoft inbuilt firewall.

All versions of Vista, XP and 2000 are still supported by Microsoft and have inclusive firewall protection. For an additional layer of security, external firewall programs can be incorporated into your operating system as simply as downloading any other piece of software. It is advisable to talk to an expert, however, as some firewalls may not be compatible with your operating system and you may encounter run conflicts that could affect other aspects of your system.

The most popular free downloadable firewall is Zone Alarm, although for comprehensive coverage, Zone Alarm Pro is probably a better option. You can also set your Internet security levels to 'high' on your operating system if you are going to be on the Internet for prolonged periods.

Anti-spyware software

Spyware is software that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or her knowledge. That information is then passed to a third party (the hacker or fraudster) and suddenly your secure system isn't quite as secure as you thought it was. There are countless pieces of embedded software (often also known as 'malware') that piggyback onto downloads and install themselves into your operating system. These include BHOs (Browser Helper Objects) which hijack your browser and take it to their 'chosen' site whether you want to go there or not. Although annoying, these don't do any real damage. However, other spyware can count keystrokes and relay these back to hackers who, from this data, can uncover passwords and other information such as account numbers. Anti-spyware software stops this malware from infiltrating your computer and leaving your important information exposed.

Anti-virus software

A virus can devastate a computer. Designed to cause maximum damage to your data, viruses are created to cause mayhem and have no other purpose other than that. Anti-virus software is essential, particularly if you are using the Internet for long periods of time, and the best option is to include a package such as McAfee VirusScan in your operating system. Ensure that you update this program regularly (you will receive prompts from your computer on start-up).

No piece of anti-virus or spyware software can cover all threats, so it's a good idea to keep an eye out for updates and to combine several systems to cover your bases. There are also some things you can do for yourself when online to keep your PC and your personal details safe:

* Never open email attachments if you do not know who the email has come from, or even from friends. This is the easiest way to allow a virus to access your system.
* Avoid downloading files from sites you are not familiar with.
* Ensure that your security protocol is set to 'high' if you are going to be online for any length of time
* No bank will ever ask for your details via email. Any that do are scams and should be immediately deleted without responding and your bank notified of the scam attempt.
* If something looks suspicious (poor spelling, bad graphics), then trust your instincts - it probably is a bogus email or phishing attempt to get access to your personal details
* If you have a wireless network in your home, ensure that it is password protected.
* Never have the same password for all your sites.

With a little thought and preparation, you can keep your home PC safe from outside attacks and your details out of the hands of fraudsters.

Change IP and Hide From Sniffers

By: Virender Labroo

Lots of Internet users choose to change IP in a bid to hide from what the Web community would call “sniffers.” Sniffers are an Internet user’s term of referring to the hacker tools that are used to pry out information and personal data from an online surfer. Hackers and other learned people use the sniffers to find out your IP address, your web browsing history, cookies, your computer system, and even your files. Knowing there are such things that are used to spy on your Internet habits, how could you not worry about your privacy whenever you surf online?

You will be surprised at just how much information about you is made available to other people, all from just your Web browsing habits. Companies and online business also employ such tactics in order to obtain information for their market research and customer database. There may be no bad intention in this case, but the thought of our personal information becoming open to the Web community is enough to make us worry about our security online.

Whenever we go online, our every action and every hit on the Enter key gets logged into the Web. For example, if we are searching for herbal medicine online, they keyword we typed in, our IP address, the time, our location, and other information will be recorded. If the site we stumble upon in search of the herbal medicine is conducting online surveys for their products, our information will also get to them with the help of the sniffers.

When this happens, you will start getting spam emails and pop-ups that will advertise different products and services. A more irritating scenario would be if they get a hold of your phone number and try to contact you into buying their products and services. The worst case scenario would be if you start getting junk mail at your home from other companies of the same nature. It is rather annoying knowing all this came from just surfing online for an herbal medicine.

An even worse case scenario would be if it is a malicious hacker that’s targeting you. This is perhaps the worst kind of predicament you will be in. A hacker sniffing out your IP address, your location, and your information could mean big trouble. This big trouble can equate to identity theft or the abusive use of your profile and your accounts, which can really spell out a huge loss for you.

This is why it has become such a big deal for knowledgeable internet users to changing IP. The basic idea is to protect ourselves from the Web and from the hackers. Our personal information should remain private and this cannot be possible if the online community can sniff out your IP address. When your real IP is out you can be tracked easily and hackers can gain entry into your computer system fast. Once they are in, your files and programs are at their mercy, and you’ll end up with your accounts touched and your computer crashed. The best solution to hide from the sniffers and the Web trackers is to change IP.
