Today's Review: Luther Red

As part of my New Year's Resolution (I figure it sticks better if you capitalize it) to write more, I'm debuting a new series called the Review. I'll be reviewing anything that I happen to feel like waxing philosophic about - anything from music and books, to annoying public speaking habits and least favorite government cliches (that one will make sense later). Today, a little belatedly, I'm reviewing a New Year's show I attended, and, more generally, the band that performed.

I'm not going to compare the band - made up of singer/guitarist Brian, guitarist Dustin, and drummer Kermit - to any other band. I refuse to do that. But here is a little bit of what being at a Luther Red show is like - imagine you got invited to a party thrown by the "cool kids." No, better yet, imagine you ARE one of the cool kids, and you are at a cool kids' party, and everyone is laughing and dancing and hugging and talking, and having one of those great times that you usually only see on a teen angst drama, only without any of the teen angst or cheesy dialogue or bad lighting. Seeing Luther Red live is like being at a summer barbeque with all your best friends (even if you've only just met most of the people at the bar, and it is January). That is the comfortable, unpretentious, inclusive vibe you get at a Luther Red show. The music is equally enjoyable whether you are sitting and tapping your foot, or grooving until exhaustion on the dance floor.

Next time these down-home (and did I mention? super sexy) guys are playing in your neighborhood bar, don't miss them. And be sure to ask them to get some more albums out there for our continued listening pleasure.
